This is my first post.
I can't believe that I'm actually sitting here and can't think of anything clever to write, especially since I'm certainly not one to be known to be at a loss for words!
Sometimes they say its best just to start typing and see what comes out - so I guess I'll just start with what's been going on around my house lately and let the blog evolve from there.
Well, Thanksgiving has just passed, and its now time for Christmas movies on TV! I am a great fan of romantic comedies, chick flicks, and overall feel good movies (among others, but these are my favorites), so, as you can imagine, Christmas movies are right up my alley! And I must say that I have a very nice collection. Combine Satellite TV and a DVR (Tivo type recording capabilities) with Christmas movie count down week, and I'm pretty much in heaven. I look forward to this time of year every year, and even though I may have something on video or DVD, it always seems special when it shows up on TV, so I have to watch it again - even if I have to speed past the commercials to do so. Since getting my DVR, I never watch TV real time - so commercials are a thing of the past for me! With the possible exception of Christmas Movie Countdown when they will spotlight new movies coming up this year, so I always keep an eye out for those!
Well, my younger sister, who lives in Arizona, called and we were comparing our favorite movies (she's also a fan), and I realized that I have everything she loves already recorded on video tape (yes, I am one of the few left that still uses a VCR. Oh, I DO have a DVD player, but I also have 2 VCR's so that I can record tape to tape and make copies (for my own personal use of course, ahem, cough, cough).
I love the fact that I can watch a movie, decide I like it, back it up to the beginning (the whole DVR experience), and click "RECORD", then go back to real time, watch what's left of the movie, and end up with a perfect copy on video tape. Who wouldn't love that???
So with that in mind, I offered to make some copies for her to watch. Oh darn, I guess that means that I'll have to go through all my movies and watch them again! RATS, don't you hate it when that happens??? So, I'm happily in my glory watching Christmas Movies and recording away, when I realize that its now 2am and I'd better get to bed soon. So off to bed I go, not thinking to shut off the recorder (do I ever????). Anyway, woke up the next day to find that the recorder had frozen, and now I not only can't turn it off, I can't eject the tape, play the tape - NOTHING, NADA, its TOAST! Damn! Unplugged it, reset it, unhooked all wires, redid them, nothing is working, its dead AND my completed movie is still in it! Oh CRAP!
